Ecuador is the smallest country of the Andes and lies on
the Equator in the northwest of South America. Despite its relatively
small size (about half the size of France) it is the most diverse
country in the world: the Amazon rainforests, the snow-capped
mountains of the Andes and the beaches along the Pacific
coast are just a few examples of what Ecuador has to offer!
A one-hour flight away from the mainland lies the world's most extraordinary
group of islands: the Galapagos Islands, an unspoiled natural
paradise. Visitors can swim with dolphins and seals and discover
giant turtles on the beach.
Quito is one of the prettiest and richest cities of the
ancient Inca Empire. Its past is very exciting: conquered in 1534
by the Spanish, it is one of the oldest cities in South America.
The historic centre with its magnificent palaces of the colonial
age form an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Quito lies 2850 Meter above sea level in a picturesque valley surrounded
by majestic peaks of the Andes. Despite it being only 22km away
from the Equator, Quito's climate is spring-like all year round!
Ecuadorians speak a very clear and easy-to-understand Spanish,
which is especially helpful for students with little prior knowledge
of the language. In addition, the friendly and welcoming nature
of the people means that you will have ample opportunity to practice
and improve your Spanish in conversation.
Ecuador has been considered to be the safest country in South America
with a crime rate lower than that of the US.
Academia Kolumbus lies in Batan Alto, a modern quarter of
the 2.2 million city, Quito. The school is situated just below the
beautiful Metropolitan Park. The school's location offers an incredible
view of the whole town.
